Day 10: Early Word (6:45a)
It’s the chilliest day of the winter so far out there today with another dusting of an inch of shimmering snowflakes hitting the mountain. We will have groovy groomers and mostly packed snow out on the mountain today. With the cold temps we are using it as an opportunity to make as much snow as humanly possible on the Angels Wiggle and Paradise Meadows. This will close a number of trails off the Jet Lift for Today and Tomorrow. Temps are in the high teens at base but are down to single digits up towards the summit.
Today the Taxi Lift and Stateside moving carpet will spin from 8:30a-4p, and the Jet Lift will be open from 9:00a-4p.
Lift tickets are cheaper when you purchase in advance. Get your tickets for HERE for as low as $69.
MOUNTAIN OPS UPDATE: Last night snowmaking finished up on the Haynes and moved over to Angel's Wiggle and Paradise Meadows to start prepping a route off the Bonnie. This in turn will shut down a number of trails including Montrealer and everything off it, Kitzbuehel, and Kitz Woods.
Come Saturday we begin to lose temps, but the silver lining and perhaps most exciting of all, it's looking like we're a go for the season's debut of Vermont's only aerial Tram this Saturday, with nearly every trail on the mountain slotted to open up- excluding Angel's Wiggle and Paradise Meadows, where snowmaking will be underway. We also will plan on running the Metro and Tramside Carpet over the weekend, starting Friday. Keep on refreshing this page over the next few days while we confirm with Patrol that we're a 100% go but given the 20" or so that we have seen in the past 4 days, it could be a weekend to remember here at Jay Peak.
Looks like a great Saturday on tap with partly cloudy skies, pleasant air temps and light winds; a perfect recipe to roll our tram and open up just about the entire mountain. As Vermont weather gives it also, unfortunately, takes away; Sunday afternoon looks a little wetter and windier than we’d prefer but fear not, forecasters are calling for a quick drop back into the cold zone for the Northern greens with accumulating snowfall on the back end of this system and appropriately cold temps all next week.
EVENTS:
- Every Saturday prior to Christmas, we plan to host our WinterShine Event, a festival of lights and community. Join us for an exciting lighting ceremony of over a quarter million warm shining lights, free fireside s'mores, ice sculptures, live holiday music, specialty meals, and more. UPHILL TRAVEL UPDATE: *Winch Cat operations are occurring on the Haynes Thursday night, and uphill travel on Haynes is not allowed at all during this time for your safety.* The cable may not be visible, it can be buried in snow. Stay on the uphill routes. We are closing our Northway uphill Route on Thursday and Friday, but should have it opened back up on Saturday. The Ullr's Route will remain open as it will not be in our snowmaker's range of fire. Have fun out there, but please leave your dogs at home. Important piece to note in our policy, Uphill Travel is only recommended during operating hours. It's their hill at night and in the early morning hours. Please be respectful and stay off of it during their time. Check out our Uphill Travel Update before you head up.
WATCH THIS SPACE FOR UPDATES: In every case, the first report of the day is a forecast of what we're seeing at that moment in time. Lift and trail counts will adjust as needed based on updates from Ski Patrol and changes in weather and conditions.
*As always, stay tuned to this page for more updates. See you out there.
